Political History of Ghana,
In 1874 the British formally established the British Crown Colony of the Gold Coast, "legalizing" a colonial policy which had in fact been in force since the signing of the bond between the coastal Chiefs and the British in 1844.
Asante was not incorporated into the Gold Coast Colony until 1902, after the Yaa Asantewa War, whereas the Keta and the Peki areas, including Awudome, constituted the original Gold Coast Colony.
Ghana came into being when the Gold Coast and the U. N. mandated Trans-Volta Togoland joined together.
