A Poem by Suzy Akrofi

AFRICA
MY HOMELAND

I LOVE YOU WITH ALL RESPECT,

AFRICA MOTHERLAND

I WILL ALWAYS DO MY BEST

TO SERVE YOU SELFLESSLY

IF IT SHOULD BE KNOWING EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU

ALL YOUR BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE

 AROUND THE WORLD

IF IT SHOULD MEAN BRINGING THEM ALL TOGETHER

I WILL SURELY DO THAT FOR THE LAND SO PRECIOUS TO ME

Blame it on some one

An Interactive play by SUZY AKROFI

[Woman comes in to the auditorium hurriedly looking for some one]

Woman:

[to a member of the audience] have you seen him? I learnt he is here [to another member of the audience] Men, oh men

[Man enters looking for the woman]

Man:

[very angry] There you are caution that precious son of yours.

Woman:

Hold on wait a minute [moves hurriedly to the man] I always  know your son is a bad influence on my son.

Man:

[to a member of audience] my son did nothing, his mistake was that he would not listen to me and picked the wrong child for a friend. Is your son like mine?

               {Ask three different people in the audience and listen to their opinions}

Woman:

[Still angry] what should I do if his son is always making my son not go to School, my son takes money from me and leaves home in the morning and  comes back home late at night very tired.

     Man:

There you go. My son is regular and punctual at school. You have the  wrong kid.

Woman:

When was the last time you talk to your son and also to his teacher?

  Man:

[Picks a member of the audience] I have two jobs. Do you have time  to check on your child when you come back form job very early in the morning? Is that not what the teachers are supposed to do, that is why they are paid with the tax payers money, our money. Don’t you  all agree with me.

[Wait for audience response}

Woman:

Wait till you carry a baby for nine painful months in your womb and see whether you would leave his daily life to a stranger.

   Man:

Please can some one tell this lady the teacher is not a stranger. We [points to some members in the audience] pay the whole lot of them so  they better start doing a better job..

 Woman:

[to the audience] what do you think I should do about this  relationship? I really hate my son to end up like him [points to the man and wait for  responses from audience] [points to the man] I  don’t think he has time to have conversation with his son

  Man:

If I do not do two jobs I can not be able to sustain my family financially. Some one help me what should I do? [ Listen to responseand lead conversation with audience for five minutes.]

Woman:

I do not know how to thank you fellows. If I had not met you I  would not have had any solution for this problem.

      Man:

I also thank you for helping understand that I need to take some time  off work and pay attention to my children
